Partnership with 8finity India
I collaborated with 8Finity India, a thriving NGO and award winning retail brand in August 2023 that interweaves opportunity, skill development, job creation, conservation and environmental protection.
The series of artwork I developed with 8Finity was called the “Joy of Music Series.”
They are acrylic on canvas paintings, with recycled embellishments. Each piece in this collection celebrated music and the emotions it evokes, using discarded materials to craft representations of musical instruments and abstract expressions of sound and rhythm.
These handwoven embellishments were made by the skilled women artisans of Bengal. Under the 8finity umbrella, they use plastic waste, scrap fabric, and jute to interweave bespoke designs. These embellishments complimented and enhanced my acrylic paintings. Working with trash materials posed an interesting challenge, but it also mirrored the theme of finding harmony and beauty in the most unlikely places. I am proud to be associated with 8finity India because they represent quality, women empowerment and a circular economy.
The success of this project went beyond just creating artwork; it was about leveraging art for a greater purpose. This project brought together two vital causes—environmental sustainability and access to clean water.
The paintings from the Joy of Music series were sold to raise funds for Jalpari. Jalpari is an exclusive Water Project of 8finity India, in Hingalganj, North 24 Parganas, West Bengal India. There is an acute water crisis in that area and Jalpari is an initiative to provide clean drinking water to the affected communities within the area. The water tube wells installed under this project is a lifeline for approximately 1,700 villagers in Paschim Khejurberia. For many, it has transformed daily life, providing a reliable source of water for drinking and cooking. In a region where water scarcity is a persistent issue, this project offers relief and sustenance.
The collaborations with 8finity and Jalpari were soul-satisfying and highlighted how art can serve as a vehicle for positive social impact, whether through supporting the artisan community or providing clean water to those in need. It was a humbling and rewarding experience that reinforced the connection between creativity and social responsibility.
